Sahara Shri: A Trailblazer in the World of Indian Entrepreneurship”

New Delhi (India), November 18: In the realm of Indian entrepreneurship, Sahara Shri, also known as Subrata Roy, emerges as a unique and paradoxical business icon. Hailing from the same state that boasts the entrepreneurial spirit of Subrata Roy, I found him to be an inspiring figure, especially as I embarked on my own journey in the finance business within the Synergy division.

Sahara Shri’s story is more than just that of a business icon; it represents an epitome and torchbearer for the Dare to Dream community. In a country that venerates Goddess Lakshmi and prays to Kuber, Sahara Shri’s narrative serves as a reminder of our failure to celebrate our economic heroes. While we honor war martyrs and gladiators, the stigma surrounding business failure remains a societal taboo.

To me, Sahara Shri was a warrior who didn’t retreat from the battlefield. Much like the brave Jhansi ki Rani, he faced the consequences of his failed experiments with the same courage that our ISRO scientists do, earning them honor and respect.

It’s unfortunate that as a society, we often lack the same respect for not-so-successful entrepreneurial journeys as we do for scientific experiments. My hope is that Sahara Shri’s passing inspires parents to discuss entrepreneurship failure empathetically, much like the way my mother narrated stories of a scientist’s 99 failed experiments before achieving success, emphasizing the importance of perseverance.

Under the visionary leadership of Sahara Shri Subrata Roy, Sahara India Pariwar operated a myriad of businesses, including Aamby Valley City, Sahara Movie Studios, Air Sahara, Uttar Pradesh Wizards, and Filmy, among others.

Recognized as one of the 10 Most Powerful People of India in 2012 by India Today, Sahara Shri’s impact extended far beyond business. In 2004, Time magazine labeled the Sahara group as ‘the second largest employer in India after Indian Railways.’ Operating through more than 5,000 establishments across India, the Sahara India umbrella employed around 1.2 million individuals, both in the field and office.

May his soul Rest in Peace…

My heartfelt wish and prayer are that Sahara Shri’s life becomes an inspiration for Indians at large to Dare to Dream, giving their all to fulfill their dreams and bravely facing the outcomes, come what may.

In remembering Sahara Shri, let us learn from his journey, acknowledging the highs and lows of entrepreneurship and fostering a culture that celebrates resilience and the indomitable spirit of the Indian dreamer.
